Fly on the wall
In the new ‘Re-discovering shibari’ series, you can have a ‘fly on the wall’ insider view as we mentor a student in a private class. Our student, Jack, is very typical; he’s studied a couple of the popular books, been to some peer rope groups, learned a lot of patterns and practiced a lot. However, when he was offered the chance to study with us to take him to the next stage he jumped at the chance.
Whether you are a beginner, more experienced or even a teacher, observing a real-life 1-2-1 class will help you by showing how common errors or difficulties are resolved, bad habits cured and techniques honed. This is not designed to be a standalone course but an enhancement to our other tutorials for those who want to further their skills to best effect. If you are a complete beginner, we suggest starting with ‘Shibari: The Easy Way’ or the ‘Shibari: Quick Start Guide’, as these teach the foundations.
Pressing the re-set button and the turn-on buttons
There’s a big difference in knowing the steps of a tie and how to tie. Doing rope should be a passionate dance between two partners and, like dancing, there’s more to it than just following the steps. There needs to be flow, passion and harmony with your partner. So much of this comes with refinement and skills that cannot be learned from books or basic tuition. These are things that are all too often learned way too late or only after advanced personal tuition. If this is the case, you are missing out on so much because they can be learned and used from day one.
The purpose of this series is to take you, with Jack, back to the beginning, to press the re-set button. This means unlearning bad habits, refining tying technique, along with improving rope and body handling.
In this first lesson, you will be left in no doubt about how much the little things matter and what an effect they have on your partner and tying. We are sure you will share a few of Jack’s lightbulb moments. Press the turn-on buttons, find out more and enroll now!
