I seem to be under assault by technical gremlins 🙁 I hope that I’m beginning to emerge from a comedy of errors by my hosting company with my email. First, they forgot to set email up when they commissioned the new server, then didn’t turn on IMAP and it took a flurry of email exchanges to get them to set up the ’email transport system’, whatever that is when it’s at home, so it actually worked.
Anyway, I fired up the streaming software only to discover that the SHIBARI.TV page was failing to connect with a time-out error. I have no idea what caused it since SHIBARI.TV is hosted on a purpose-designed video streaming system. Meanwhile, Mo asked me why one of the lights wasn’t working. A quick check revealed that, whilst out on loan to a friend, one of the prongs on the plug had been snapped off, requiring a hasty last minute plug swap. Keen not to miss capturing the session, I decided to divert my attention to shooting with the new video kit and ignored the streaming side as the session was starting.
The good news is that we do have some superb video. I’m still struggling at maximum aperture using the kit zoom lens as the adaptor for my new 28mm lens has yet to arrive but, looking at the rushes, you won’t be disappointed. With luck, I’ll have the lens adaptor tomorrow. Mo already has access to a 2nd camera with a wide lens anyway, so we hope to do even better.
Sod’s Law dictated that the streaming page came up perfectly when I checked again after the session ended. I can only guess it was too much traffic overall on the streaming server. I know high viewing figures haven’t caused an issue before but the server is shared so I guess it could have been traffic from other sites.
To make up for tonight’s loss of transmission, we’ll get the edit up ASAP.
